Efrain Ugueto studied at  The Experimental University of the Arts, where he specialised in painting. Following his dissertation, which examined the relationship between religious and commercial images, Efrain began creating satirical Pop Art influenced work which explores the similarities and contrasts between religious iconography and mass-media motifs.

Here a well-recognised image of The Virgin Mary is entirely transformed, with the top half appearing as a modern day man and the bottom half in the easily distinguishable guise of the Christian icon. Efrain amalgamates the two forms with the man’s waistcoat and jacket seamlessly metamorphosing into The Virgin Mary’s robes.
