Born in Iran in 1962, Yari Ostovany moved to the United States 4 months before the revolution at the age of 16 and pursued his studies in art first at the University of Nevada - Reno and then at the San Francisco Art institute where he received his MFA in 1995. Yari’s art explores the spiritual through the alchemy of paint, colour, light, texture and space.

Before discovering visual art at the age of 14, Yari fell in love with Persian poetry and has grown up with an urge to create. His work brings together elements from the East and the West and examines how mystic traditions across cultures overlap. Working primarily in oils, his paintings draw inspiration from music, literature, poetry and his experiences and stylistically relate to work by the second generation of American Abstract Expressionists but at the same time refer to his Iranian heritage.
